A series of smoked out jams during the summer of 2013/14 on the north facing front porch of a shat-out villa on St Albans Avenue, Maungawhau, Tāmaki Makaurau, were the genesis for what is now Te Huhu, a pschedlelic stoner shoegaze blues and rock & roll outfit.
After mucking around for a few years with various ideas and substances, 2019 saw the release of their debut album Recychedelia. A collection of ten songs that sum up the period well included 3 Top Ten singles on 95bFM, probably the world’s greatest and most powerful radio station.
This all lead to widespread acclaim amongst a very small underground community and various ‘gigs’ have followed with highlights including a this well reviewed performance at Echo Ohs’ Wild Weeds EP Release, a first foray into the winterless north with an appearance at the Whangarei Fringe Festival, and a live-to-air on 95bFM’s Friday Live with Jonny & Big Hungry.
In 2021 Te Huhu has been back in the studio working on the follow up to their debut Recychedelia.
Recording for their sophomore effort Deelishis Herbs began at The Lab in Mt Eden and has since progressed rather well in various bedrooms and lounge rooms across the Tāmaki isthmus. Once again self produced with mixing by guitarist/engineer Big Hungry, Deelishis Herbs is set for a limited edition vinyl release in 2022.
